Randomness

  1. I uploaded my fist pattern on to Ravelry... well actually 2 patterns. 10 people have already queued it. I think that means I'm famous. That's pretty exciting.
  2. I slept in until 10:30 today. That is also pretty!
  3. I learned, the hard way, that one should indicate on the lace pattern holder if their next row is the line above the little place marker magnet or the line after .... especially when they are not going to look at it for 3 weeks.
  4. I didn't knit for a week. Fortunately that knitting hiatus is over.
  5. The Sofitel Hotel at Dubai Jumeirah Beach is AMAZING! The bathrooms alone make me want to move right in and never leave. And this is the view from the rooms
  6. I didn't know that the "compose" tab on blogger meant that I could change colors, fonts, font sizes and lay out until last week. I have only been blogging on blogger for 2.5 years!
  7. Because of this new development my posts might be a bit over formatted for a while.
  8. The Burj Dubai err umm rather the Burj Khalifa finally opened... it's seriously tall.
  9. Today I cleaned the bathroom... so that I wouldn't have to feel guilty about not packing. That's how much I hate packing.
  10. I love pink sunsets. These days every evening is a pink sunset.
  11. I may have taken pictures of the pink sunset so that I could procrastinate packing. Just maybe.

Knitting and Etoiles

Friday I met with the girls in Dubai for a knitting day! We met at our usual Caribou Coffee only this time at Dubai Festival City. We got great news from Charmaine the other day so it was great fun to see her and chat with her about all the excitement. We all sat for hours chatting, knitting and drinking coffee and honestly it's one of my favorite ways to spend a day.

After that I hurried home to get ready for a big night out in Abu Dhabi. My husband and I went out to Al Wahda Mall to have dinner and to check this out....

It's the Red Bull Air Race Village!!

This year (yes, I go every year) they added a red carpet with pictures from all the different races last year. The pictures were fantastic and I felt like a SUPERSTAR walking down the red carpet.

And look! An entire air plane sitting in the mall!

The Red Bull Air Race Village is a lot of fun. They have games where you can fly planes through the same track that pilots must navigate in order to win the race. Also if you get there at just the right time the sampling girls might be handing out Red Bulls.

After the Village we headed over to Etoiles Club at Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi where the race day countdown party was in full swing.

I thought the entrance to the club was great.

They had a game inside where you actually sit and pilot the Red Bull Plane. SO MUCH FUN!
(Sorry the pic is so dark but ya'know clubs are dark)
We had such a great time that we ended up staying out WAY LATER than we had planned so...

On Saturday I spent the entire day sleeping and lounging around the house. Bliss. Pure bliss.

the BURJ Al Arab baby!

last saturday my friends and i went to the Burj Al Arab for tea. (pinky finger up!)

oh yeah, that Burj Al Arab!

we went to enjoy my friend meredith's last weekend in Dubai because on Friday morning she will be flying back to the States (just as our future president is announced but that's for the next post) and continuing her work from New York. so it was a bitter sweet afternoon. the sweet part was being in fantastic company, having an incredible view, drinking all you can drink coffee/lattes/juice/tea and eating as many mini sandwiches as one can fit in their mouth. but the bitter side was knowing that soon my friend will be so dang far apart from the rest of us from now on. yeah yeah yeah i know a phone call or email away but still you get use to having your coffee every morning at work with the same people. :::sigh:::

so this is a pic of all of us enjoying our brunch

from left to right we have melissa, ashley, ME!, & meredith. we all work together and actually like each other too! isn't that great!

here's the finger foods we got to enjoy

notice the tray looks like the Burj Al Arab (hehehe) i was trying to figure out a way to sneak it in my purse but it just wouldn't fit... but with my luck they would have noticed it was missing anyways ; )

here are some of the views we got to enjoy from the Skyview Bar at the top where we had our tea!

you can see the Burj Dubai and Sheikh Zayed Road from the Burj Al Arab

here's a view of the new Atlantis Hotel & Resort

and here is one of my favorite hang outs (at the very tip of the pier) called 360 at Jumeirah Beach Hotel. i recommend this place to anyone passing through Dubai. it offers a great view of Jumeirah Beach hotel, the Burj Al Arab and Madinat Jumeirah and it has a fabulous laid back atmosphere.

this is the fantastic view of the Palm Jumeirah we were privy to as we were driving off of the Burj Al Arab property. and yes our brunch/tea lasted a long time. we were there to enjoy every minute!!

it's days like saturday that remind me just how beautiful Dubai is and just how lucky i am to live here. but i sure am going to miss my friend
